Ch. 8: Effective Staff Structure

Excerpt
In many congregations, the staff org chart is either a mystery or a polite fiction. Chapter 8 makes the case for one clear head of staff and a coherent structure under that leader. This clarity reduces confusion about who supervises whom, who decides what, and how staff roles connect to the congregation’s priorities. I show how to align staff positions with the ministry vision the board sets, rather than with historical accidents or donor preferences. Volunteers who carry ongoing responsibility are treated as part of the staff system and given a clear supervisor as well. The goal is not bureaucracy, but a structure that supports collaboration instead of turf battles.
