Ch. 11: Board-Staff Collaboration
← Previous
Next →
Excerpt
Chapter 11 ties together planning, vision, monitoring, evaluation, and strategic thinking as shared work between board and staff. I sketch an annual rhythm in which the board poses open questions, listens for the Spirit through “holy conversation,” and sets a short list of vision goals for the coming year. Staff then lead the work of pursuing those goals, reporting back regularly on progress and learning. Board and staff evaluate their partnership and the congregation’s ministry, adjusting course as they go. In this model, “strategic planning” is not a once-a-decade epic project but the ordinary way leadership happens. Collaboration becomes less about endless joint meetings and more about each group doing its part within a well-understood framework.
